Phone disconnect is blissful for a while
For 36 hours last week, I lived almost completely under the radar.
Well, not quite. I still had Internet access.
And anyone could have found me by knocking on the door.
But for a brief and strange period, I was unreachable by telephone, either cellular or landline.
The cell went first, courtesy of the dog, overcome once again by the sheer thrill of stealing something forbidden from my desk and running off with it into the living room. By the time I connected the missing phone with the ferocious growling sounds of a kill in progress, it was too late.
It already had a tooth mark in the case and a scratched front screen from his last attack upon it. Now the inside screen had a weird crack in it, the bottom row of the keyboard was bent and the battery was under the radiator.
When I put it back together and tried to turn it on, nothing happened.
